Who wants to be rich?

In mid-November of 2018, Kylie Jenner achieved a milestone of being the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire, at age 21.

Jenner is known all around the world from her appearance on reality TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, her large audience on her social media accounts, and her own cosmetic line, Kylie Cosmetics.

Senior Alyson Brown is a fan of Jenner and she has used products from Kylie Cosmetics.

“She came up with all the names, shades, and products she wanted to make,” Brown said.

The Kylie Cosmetics line was originally only sold online and occasionally in pop-up shops, but  after signing an exclusive distribution deal with beauty retailer, Ulta, the Kylie Lip Kits hit the shelves in stores.

The Kylie Lip Kits are one of the many popular products that the cosmetic line sells, and the retail price is $29.

Senior Talia Crumrine is also a fan of Kylie Jenner and believes that the Kylie Lip Kits are a well-made product.

“Even though they cost a lot of money, they are long-lasting and they are very goods quality,” Crumrine said.

Once the products launched in over 1,000 Ulta stores in the United States, Jenner celebrated by showing up to the Richmond Avenue Ulta in Houston, to have a free meet-and-greet with customers that bought her products. She took selfies with the shoppers and the sales of her cosmetics skyrocketed.

Six weeks after Jenner’s cosmetic line hit the market in Ulta, the company sold $54.5 million worth of products. With the help of Ulta, Kylie Cosmetics’ revenue increased 9% last year to an estimated $360 million.

According to Forbes Magazine, Jenner’s company is worth at least $900 million, and she owns all of it.

With all the profits from her cosmetic line, plus the money she has already made from her reality television show, various sponsorships, and endorsements, she has made an estimated fortune of one billion.

Alyson Brown is familiar with Jenner’s success, and believes that it is a great accomplishment.

“I think she should be proud to be the youngest billionaire in the world,” Brown said.

Previously, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg held the title of “youngest self-made billionaire,” achieving the 10-figure milestone at age 23. Jenner achieved this same milestone at age 21, making her the new record holder.

“She would not have need able to do it with all the connections she has had,” Crumrine said.

While this is a big milestone for Jenner, there is controversy over the fact whether her fortune is “self-made.”

CNBC.com states that “it’s the ‘self-made’ label that may be the biggest stretch in the latest Kylie Jenner craze.”

Forbes Magazine defines self-made as “someone who built a company or established a fortune on her own, rather than inheriting some or all of it.”

The main reason why people are upset about her title is that Forbes’ use of the phrase “self-made,” with no cover mention of Jenner’s famous family and how much wealth or power she started with in life.

Kylie Jenner has grown up in the spotlight with her famous siblings in the reality series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Fans are saying that she gained her wealth from her family, with the help of her cosmetic line.

“I don’t think she would be where she is today without Kris Jenner,” Brown said.

The debate of whether or not her label is true has been often talked about and people are sharing their opinions.  CNBC.com states that it’s the “self-made” label that may be the biggest stretch in the latest Kylie Jenner craze.

“I think she has worked very hard for her title, even though I think she isn’t 100% self-made,” Brown said.
