As spring sports kick into gear this March, junior Nathan Gillenwater prepares for a good volleyball season. Gillenwater plays outside hitter and defensive specialist on the boys varsity volleyball team. “I play all around the court and do a bit of everything,” Gillenwater said. Practice has just begun, but he’s already optimistic for the season. “We have good talent from our freshmen, so I’m very optimistic for how things will be,” Gillenwater said. He also said that the team has seen improvement already since their previous year. His goal, he said, was to make it on the All-Conference first team this season, but also just to enjoy working together with his friends on the team and continue to do well in his classes. “It’s such a great feeling to work with my friends on a team. Being a student athlete has helped me realize how much work you have to put in to keep your grades up and still make it to practice every day,” Gillenwater said.
