Thursday, May 2 at 5 p.m. The Westerville North Marching Band had their second spring rehearsal introducing potential new members (mostly 8th graders and freshme
n) to the program.
Brass Captain Caroline Williams said, “ I think that we could have bonded more with our sections and maybe [have gotten] to know the new people more, but overall it went well.”
Kenya Herriott, clarinet section leader, said ”The event went well and I felt that I got to know our new members well though for us they’re wasn’t that…?
The new members listen to and try playing the Westerville North Fight Song. First played at a slower tempo, then picked it up to regular tempo to let new members hear it at full speed.
They worked on horn technique and marking time which overall was successful and people were matching pretty well.
They played more of next year’s show “Fragments of Red” and played through measure 13-53.
According to Drum Major Austin Reed, it sounded very good for such a short playing period and with lots of new members.
“I think that the rehearsal went great…being the second time most of the band was together,” Reed said. “A lot of things went really well that were different from last year. The improvement from Tuesday’s rehearsal was astronomical in terms of progress within the first years.”
They showed official dismissal to all of the new students so that they learned how we finish off practice everyday
Marching Band members thought their spring rehearsal was an overall success.
Leo Garcia, a fourth year marcher said, “I think that most of the new kids besides some, are pretty fast learners and I think they’ll do great at marching. Overall, I think it was successful in the fact of getting stuff done and showing the new kids what marching band is kind of like.”
Since these kids came from around the five different middle schools, it will be interesting to see how they interact with each other and how next year will play out.
All of the new students are invited to conditioning practices.
