This school year has been full of change and the first pep rally was no different.
On Friday morning of the WNHS versus Olentangy Orange High School football game, Warriors hosted their first pep rally of the year. Students gathered in the bleachers while the cheerleaders danced and the marching band played music. Freshmen overwhelmed the stands, some having to sit on the steps due to the sheer amount of kids.
Dr. Hartnell led a cheer competition between the different classes, the sophomores spirit reverberating throughout the gym. The student section leaders hosted a game that put teachers versus students.
Mr. Schirripa took home a large trophy for his win in the limbo competition. A relay ended with Camryn Valentine (‘27) injured after running to throw a beach ball into the basketball hoop. To add to the theme, student section leaders ran around dressed as sharks and threw beach balls into the crowd.
These games were organized by the ‘24-’25 student section leaders. Ksenija Joshevska, one of the student section leaders said, “We were thinking about it all weekend: which [student-led competitions] are good enough to do, get everyone involved and be entertaining enough [to] not just sit there.”
To the dismay of some students this pep rally was hosted for the WNHS versus Orange game instead of our Central. Athletic Director Wes Elifritz explained this decision, “Everybody gets excited for [and] already comes to those games. I want to see if we can get everybody #AllN for the games that aren’t [rivalries].”
Hayden Gillenwater, another student section leader, announced that there will be a tailgate before the game at 6pm with pizza, drinks, music, and games.
