On October 3-5, the Westerville North Theatre Department put on their first play of the school year: Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap”. This was the first WNHS show directed by Katie Breslin, the new theater director as of the summer of 2024.
Breslin decided to take on the role of director because of her past involvement in theater. She has enjoyed her experiences in the past regarding theater and wants to continue with her involvement in the program. She believes that directing is a great way to do that. While Breslin is new to being a director, she is still excited for the opportunity.
“It was the first show that I have ever directed on my own,” Breslin said, “so making sure all of my blocking was facing towards the audience and that lines weren’t going too fast and were heard by everyone [was somewhat challenging].”
Throughout the preparation for the show, Breslin worked with her director’s assistant Ali Washburn. “I think Ms. Breslin is a wonderful director. She has a lot of energy and just seemed excited to work with all of us and get to do the show,” Washburn said.
Breslin also worked with the cast of the show including actor Henry McClure (2026). In the show, McClure plays Detective Sergeant Trotter. He enjoyed his first show with Breslin, saying, “She is really nice and younger, making her more relatable than other directors. She is more down to Earth.”
Breslin and the theater department have two more shows to put on this year: “Silver Bells” and “Seussical the Musical”. For these shows and the rest of her time as director, Breslin plans to grow the theater program at North and for the students to enjoy the program. “I want everyone involved to have as much fun as they can and love it as much as I do,” she said.
