The gun was shot and the legs were moving. The Westerville North Cross Country team just held their annual Westerville North Classic Cross Country meet and it was another success.
North’s boys cross country team has won the Classic and other big meets in recent years. From OCC championships to state championship appearances, the team has risen the ranks of elite cross country teams in the state of Ohio.
In their season opening meet at the Pickerington North XC Classic, the varsity team finished in second place, only losing to Division II New Philadelphia. Notable runners in the varsity race include Casey Carlos (2026) finishing 8th place with a time of 15:56, Charlie Bosler (2027) in 13th with a 16:19, Gregory Kerns (2027) in 14th with a 16:24, Holden Gray (2027) in 16th with a time of 16:27, and Khalid Guled (2026) in 21st with a time of 16:36 rounding out the scorers.
Kerns is a three-season athlete, but isn’t satisfied with ‘good enough’ in any of his efforts. “Our varsity’s great performance definitely has me excited for the rest of the season, but we’re never going to be content,” Kerns said.
The open (JV) team also competed well, finishing in third place showing the depth of the team. The scorers for the team were Marco Rico (2026) winning the race with a time of 17:45, Kenny Biddle (2029) finishing fourth, with a time of 18:51, Fox Baldwin (2029) in 18th with a time of 19:17, Rhys Fairall (2026) finishing 20th with a 19:24 and Brayden Imagie Douglas (2026) in 24th with a time of 19:28 to round out the scorers.
After a strong showing at the Pickerington North Classic on August 23, the Warriors looked to prove themselves once again this time at the North Classic home meet on August 30.
Not only was the meet really competitive, but it was also senior morning where all of the Warrior seniors walked on the field with their families. The Warriors honored a total of 14 seniors.
Warrior Head Coach Nick Horton said, “I am very excited [about the North Classic], but it’s always a bittersweet moment. It is extremely special to see all of these guys grow into exceptional young men by the time they are seniors.”
The Warriors finished first in both varsity and open meets with 49 points and 40 points, respectively. The next closest teams were more than 45 points behind.
The next meet is Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Tiffin Invitational.
