A frightening adventure “Dead by Daylight”(2016) is a online multiplayer horror game that is a highly-competitive Player vs Player (PvP) game that challenges your critical thinking ability and puts you in high-stress environments. While overall easy to learn, the game has a high skill- ceiling and you can definitely make a point to show off your skills or be killed trying. This game is very entertaining and I would recommend it.
“Dead by Daylight” is very unique so not many games are similar to it. But a couple games have been released like. Those are Identity V and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These games follow a similar premise to DBD but Texas Chainsaw Massacre only has one killer and Identity V is not as polished or Developed as “Dead by Daylight.” Overall “Dead by Daylight” is a very unique experience that makes it a challenging experience for all players.
The game has two sides that a player can choose. First the survivor side, where you and 3 other plays are trying to work together to survive. In order to escape the trials (win the game) You must complete 5 out of the 7 generators in the game and open the exit gates in order to escape the trials. When playing Killer your goal is to stop all the survivors from escaping the trials. You will have multiple abilities to help you in damaging and downing a survivor. Once down u must pick them up and bring them to a hook and place them on it once they have been hooked three times they will be killed and lose the game. Survivor is the more popular of the two with 56% of players playing more survivor than killer. It is very engaging.
Though it may seem that way the survivors aren’t completely helpless against the killers. First when completing actions together they can speed up certain processes but their main goal while being chased is to stall for as much time as possible so other survivors can continue to get things done and they do this by running certain “loops” that have a pallet and this pallet when placed down at the correct time will stun the killer giving you time to get away. When you are eventually caught the killer will most likely pick you up and put you on a hook and the first time you will just be still there but you have an opportunity to escape on your own otherwise you will need to wait for a teammate. If you are they’re for 60 seconds you will reach tier 2 and you are unable to leave by yourself and you will need to perform constant skill checks. If you fail a check you will lose time and if you are on the hook for another minute then you will be instantly killed. The same will happen if the killer hooks you 3 times. Survivors have items that can help them. The main ones are the toolbox, flashlight and the medkit. Which helps you out during the trials in different ways. Completing generators is your main goal of the trials and they take 90 seconds with no additional buffs to complete but while doing them you will get random skill checks that if you fail the generator will explode alerting the killer. You are able to continue doing the generator afterwards. Killer is extremely fun and fast paced.
When playing killer you have many options first while all the survivors are the same, the killers are not and you start with 4 of them, each with different abilities. Overall there are 35 different killers you can choose from and the abilities vary a lot. Some allow you to shoot projectiles to damage survivors some allow you to instantly down a survivor, or allow you to teleport around the map this makes a very interesting dynamic on how you use your power will make or break being a good killer doing whatever you can to move as quickly as possible and hook survivors as fast as possible is your main goal.
Now outside of the trials DBD has a few things to offer first is lore. Each and every character has a backstory of how they got into the trials. Second are perks that you gain from the bloodweb and you get to create different builds to help you in the trials. There are lots of points in the game where you get to play tricks on the other side to do whatever you can to get away or get the survivor.
There’s some parts of the game that are less enjoyable though. Survivor can feel repetitive at times even with 40 maps and 36 killers. Certain maps make some killers extremely difficult to play and the survivor then just wins because of it which makes it way less fun on both sides. Some killers feel very oppressive on the survivor side such as a nurse who can just teleport through walls so all the distance you gained was negligible.
All the license characters are only $5 each and makes some of your favorite characters from horror films come to life on the screen. On the killer side you have many options at all times and different things you can try.
I really recommend this game for $30. It offers lots of content, and they continually add to the game (most recently on May 6 2024) and make it better. I hope that this helps with your decision on your purchase of “Dead by Daylight.”
