Social creatures such as humans, must collaborate and communicate with each other to express our perspective, for effective clarification on the situation. .
It’s simple, we do it because it is a quicker process than working individually to complete work under short conditions.. We also notice that it is imperative because it shows one’s understanding on the given topic.
Group workmakes the work environment much smoother, people want their alone time,by having other views on the situation it may lead to a better outcome. “If students pick who they work with, it will motivate them beacuse the work load is distributed differently,” Annmarie Celello said.
Having friends in the group is less effective than having a strongly diverse group. This is important because you can get different cultures and their perspectives on the topic and their views may be different from other individuals’ in the group. New conclusions are drawn from the wide horizon of possibilities with other outlooks on the given situation.
“During the class period make sure everybody is helping out. And if not, say something to them,” Avery Halterman, a student who works in multiple groups, said. “Make sure you’re doing work with people that will not distract you.”
Harvard educators argue that to make group work more effective, there should NOT be a leader, but rather allow every member to state their points equally. This way there is no dominating factor in the situation. Otherwise some people would be hidden in the corner, not fully engaged in the topic.
“Having a group where everybody works well together and everybody contributes d to the group project,” Halterman said.
It is necessary to clear up any confusion through concise clear research with understandable clauses. This links people who are disconnected from the subject matter witha comprehensible discussion and direct points.
Celello is a student who greatly values her grades, so she believes that everyone should do their part. “The grade will depend on different people,” Celello said.
Minimil amounts of conflict are perfect because they create new approaches to the situation. It shoud not result in disagreements, but rather a bump in the road to create alternate ideas.
‘You can bounce ideas off another person and it’s better to have more than just your ideas and compare,” Jack Lee said. “Two heads are better than one.”
According to Brian J. Brim, an advisor for leading organization and research noted that, in the U.S. only 34% of employees work in teams. However, worldwide productivity and being engaged is as low as 15%. Those in workplaces are not in an effective group work environment, therefore it holds a bad reputation.
There are many people that are sitting around a table with some that are outcast because they are upset that they are not allowed to work individually. However, they are the same people that are chiming in with their thoughts and ideas on the topic that is being discussed.This all helps to show the people working and communicating together, even though not all of them may enjoy it, it is more effective for understanding.
