Westerville North High School has offered a diverse range of classes that challenges the students and prepares them for higher education such as Advanced Placement (AP), College Credit Plus (CCP) and Honors classes.
According to current enrollment data, participation in advanced courses has steadily grown over the past five years. The number of students enrolled in AP, CCP and Honors courses has increased from 901 in the 2020-2021 school year to 942 students in 2024-2025. There has been an almost 3% increase in the overall student body’s participation. Additionally, the percentage of students from diverse backgrounds enrolled in these advanced classes has also increased from 31% in 2020-2021 to an estimated 39% in the upcoming school year.
This growth is something WNHS has been working on. Shayna Wade-Argus, assistant principal, said the key to increasing student participation in advanced classes is early exposure. When freshmen are exposed early on to harder classes, they are more likely to stay in the future.
Wade-Argus also has said that some students are content with their current grades and do not see the need to work harder, while others are open to taking more difficult classes. With such students, the admin will usually attempt to persuade them by saying, “I know you have all A’s and it’s a cakewalk right now, but how about we push ourselves and take a slightly harder class.” Students tend to respond positively to this encouragement and are willing to take on the challenge of harder courses.
