For the first time in 176 – years, a woman will lead the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Keechant Sewell will be an incredible stepping stone in diversifying the NYPD, especially because Sewell is both a woman and a person of color. Growing up in public housing in Queens, Sewell has an invaluable perspective that will serve her well in her highly respected position. Hardwork and perseverance has led her to this moment, and she is highly respected by her colleagues as they have insurmountable praise for her. Sewell will continue to make strides and rewrite the history of the NYPD.
