Shortage of Bus Drivers caused by the Pandemic

Brandon Trinh, Health and Technology editor

Being a bus driver is hard amidst a global pandemic, this is because most bus drivers are at higher risk due to their age. Bus driving is a perfect job for any retire so this coupled with the fact that some bus drivers are already in a two-week quarantine after testing positive, it’s easy to see where the shortage is coming from. These two factors are not the only two factor affecting the shortage of bus drivers, there has already been a shortage of bus drivers nationally before the pandemic about 20%. Bus drivers also have to be quarantined if family members or potential exposure happens, and the quarantine period is 10 days this is much longer than other absences such as during flu season where drivers would only be out three to four days. A lot of bus drivers are being advised not to drive due to their age and the possibility of exposure, this is a sad case as many bus drivers love their job and seeing the students, and not seeing these students could mean they have no other social interactions other than their own family. So the next time you get on the bus and see the bus driver tell make sure you tell them something nice, it will surely make their day!
