Soccer player Lionel Messi, a 36 year old Argentinian forward, has taken the soccer world by storm. Messi signed a groundbreaking contract with Inter Miami CF marking his first step into Major League Soccer (MLS). The signing was announced July 16 on Messi’s social media.
“Bienvenido 10” Messi wrote. That translates to “Welcome 10” and shows him embracing his new chapter.
Messi is said to be “worth up to $150 million total from his salary, signing bonus, and equity in the team,” Sportico wrote.
This move not only brings immense star power to the American soccer scene, but it also cements Inter Miami CF’s status as a global contender. Miami, a month ago, had the fewest points in all of MLS.
Messi turned Miami’s fortunes around after seven victories, including two by penalty shootout, and he helped the Herons raise a trophy for the first time in their history. Miami already has fans worldwide eagerly awaiting more of Messi’s career on U.S. soil. His legacy continues to evolve in a new and unexpected direction.
