Travon Fountain (‘26) is a four-year varsity starter for the Westerville North soccer team. Soccer wasn’t just something he started once he got to high school; Fountain has been playing soccer for nine consecutive years now. He didn’t just join soccer for the fun of it; he also liked a particular aspect of the game.
“I got into soccer for the sense of freedom and release from any stress I had from my personal life,” Fountain says. This helps Fountain be so attuned and focused when he’s playing the game.
“It is my escape, and when I get onto that field, everything else goes out the window and I lock in on what I love,” he says.
Fountain is really good at what he does, and it makes it easier for him to do what he loves while escaping from all the problems he is dealing with outside of soccer. He has a huge impact on the team at North. Many of his teammates love him and all the hard work he puts in for the team.
Fountain’s teammate, Jaren Kellar (‘26) says, “He is a really good player, he controls the ball very well, and he just provides for everyone else on the team.” Fountain led the soccer team with assists, having good communication, making sure to pass the ball to the player who scored to get a game-winning goal.
Fountain plays nearly every minute of every game. His main position on the field is mostly midfield or out on the wing. He contributes to his positions by having great communication and making sure to play as a team and not just for himself.

Another teammate of Fountain’s, Andrew Wachowiak (‘26) says, “He’s a tough player, he gets into strong tackles for the team, making sure to help us out in the best way he can.”
The soccer team had a winning season this year, while making it into the State Championship bracket. The team was 15-2 with 3 ties against Hilliard Bradley, Big Walnut, and Bexley.
Even though the boys had a winning season this year, there were two games that got the best of them, and it isn’t always easy losing games after being so used to winning or having that record of winning. It definitely could bring the team down and make them be discouraged after winning so much. Fountain is someone the team can look up to when things start to go downhill for the team.
“When things aren’t going how we expect them to or how we wanted Travon always tries to uplift the team, keeping us in high spirits, and he doesn’t bring us down even if he’s feeling the pressure of the game,” Kellar says. Having a teammate who keeps the team going in bad times is very important. The team has to work together to try to make a change in the game, and without good sportsmanship, it wouldn’t work.
Fountain has just finished his last year of high school soccer, and he does wish to continue his soccer career in college. He has 3 offers from Dennison, Dayton, and Elmhurst. He is currently undecided on his commitment, because he has the opportunity to gain more exposure from other schools, so he doesn’t want to make any impulsive decisions for his future.
