Review of 1917 movie

This new war film hit theaters in the United States on January 10th. I went to see the movie with high hopes because, from what I had read, the movie was a new take on the classic war film. The way the film is directed makes you feel as though you are travelling right alongside the actors as they try to stay alive in their attempt to deliver a message to the front lines. There isn’t as much gore in this movie as one might expect; the major element of this film is its portrayal of a soldier’s consciousness during a time of war. The director for this movie, Sam Mendes, based this story loosely on what his grandfather told him about his time fighting in the war. I like that this movie isn’t just about bloodshed, but that it shows the mentality that American soldiers had during the first world war.
