Bags of Tyson Dino Fun Nuggets with the best by date of Sept. 4, 2024 have all been recalled. This happened after the USDA discovered there were metal pieces within the chicken nuggets (NBC News).
Zaine Foster (2025) responded that he hadn’t heard about the recall on the nuggets.
“That’s probably not good.” Foster said. “The food industry should have way stricter policies.”
Mary Kloepfer is a health teacher at Westerville North, Kloepfer has been a health teacher for 25 years and 19 of those have been at Westerville North.
Kloepfer also had not heard of the recall. The metal pieces pose a significant food safety concern. “The metal in the chicken could cause damage to the esophagus and the digestive tract. This issue should have also been found before being sold,” Kloepfer said.
Kayeligh Hilderbrand (2025) does not even like dino shaped chicken nuggets, but does eat other frozen nugget products.
“I think [the metal pieces in the chicken are] dangerous and that it should have been regulated,” Hilderbrand said.
The Tyson Company released a statement saying only that there were metal pieces reportedly in their product, not how they got there.
Poultry companies must follow sanitary procedures, under the Poultry Products Inspection Act Chapter 10, Section 456, for the purpose of preventing foreign materials from entering the public market.
Despite six recalls since 2020, Tyson still needs to update their safety tests and standards to exceed USDA regulations.
“The policies are there, they just need to be strictly enforced and followed,” Kloepfer said.
