Westerville North, Central and South came to North to teach the next set of freshmen choir students how to thrive in musical arts in high school. Wednesday, Jan. 17 was the day of the event.
During this event, eighth graders from Walnut Springs, Blendon, Minerva Park and Genoa Middle schools joined together in Westerville North’s Warrior Performing Arts Center to listen to current seniors explain what the next steps are for the students to continue on their path in the arts.
The seniors guided them through instructions on topics such as how to add choir to their schedule as well as the benefits of doing so, also mentioning that if you do choir long enough it can count as a physical education credit. Groups that do this are the Westerville North Show Choir and the Westerville Central Jazz Group.
Ash Bates (2024) of Westerville Central who participates in Jazz mentions “Sticking with choir was one of the best choices I made in my life as I’ve received college scholarships,” Bates said. “As a person who started choir in middle school and had a pretty okay experience, it’s great putting these younger students in a position that can really help them turn their passions into what could be a career in the future.”
I believe that having influence from seniors such as Ash Bates speak on how passion can become a career can be a real eye opener to those involved and it should be encouraged.
