Nicki Minaj, deemed “Queen of Rap” finds herself publicly feuding with Megan Thee Stallion, another well known female rapper who dropped what Minaj believed was a diss track against her.
On Jan. 26, 2024 Megan Thee Stallion dropped Hiss, a number one trending song on YouTube. It was perceived as a diss track towards her haters.
Hours later Niki Minaj took to Instagram live, mumbling a diss rap that had words targeted towards Megan saying “you lied on your dead mama” and “I know you’re listing right now you bullet fragment foot B****.” She also referenced the pop star saying “Get up on your good foot.” This refers to an incident where Megan Thee Stallion was attending a party and a rapper named Tory Lanez shot her in the foot .
While many questioned what set Nicki Minaj off to create that response, it was found her reaction was from one bar of lyrics in Hiss. “These h*e’s don’t be mad at Megan, These h*he’s mad at Megan’s Law.”
This is important because Megan’s Law is the name of a federal law in the United States requiring law enforcement to make registered sex offenders public knowledge. Trinity Durrum (2024), is a huge Barb who listens to both rappers. She speaks on the issue, “Megan was definitely throwing shots at different celebrities like in her recent songs however when she released Hiss that was about artist Drake who dissed her in a song with 21 savage,” Durrum said.
Durham also comments on Minaj’s reaction. “Niki has been losing her mind on twitter for the past week and it’s nerve wracking,” Durham said. The connection between this law and Minaj through her husband, Kenny Petty, who is a registered sex offender after pleading guilty to the attempted rape of a thirteen year old girl.
Kimani Mattew (2025) says “You can’t be mad if someone is calling you out for your choice in men,” Mattew said.
Megan Thee Stallion makes it clear she doesn’t stand with anyone who could be or associate with those who hurt children and her points are clear in just that one line of her song without it being targeted towards anyone specific.
However, in response the next day, Minaj went back onto Instagram live and degraded Megan Thee Stallion once more saying things about her body and dead mother and continuing to speak on how Megan resembles Big Foot. Audiences found out it was the name of the album Minaj dropped a day later. The album continues to antagonize and bully Megan while directly saying it was targeted towards her.
Logan Burton (2025) believes that “Talking about people’s dead moms is not okay. I stan and love Nicki but I don’t like her right now,” Burton said.
Diss tracks would forever leave its mark in hip-hop history however the contexts of diss tracks are to get a reaction from the other opponent or group through a musical median. Many claimed Nicki’s album was rushed and even received backlash for the AI generated cover as fans concluded she could have easily paid someone to make something creative. But the response to Nicki’s diss track would be anything but positive. She took long pauses in her song, was stuttering and not using creative word play or rhymes, disappointing many as they felt it was time to search for a new Queen of Rap.
