On Friday, Dec. 8, Westerville North’s International Club hosted a cultural night where students get to represent their culture. The president of the cultural night, Fadumo Ali (2025), explains what cultural night is. “It’s a night for us to positively display all the different cultures we have here at our school,” Ali said.
Many wonder what a cultural night is. At Westerville North, all different cultures come together as one to put on a show to represent all everyone.
This night was something they wanted to make happen given the fact that North’s population is 50% non-white as of January 2022. The International Club wanted to have an opportunity to show everyone the beauty of different cultures and educate everyone the differences of each culture.
The show represents different cultures like Mexico, Ecuador, Somalia, Eritrea, Nepal, Guinea, Sweden and Nigeria.
Everyone in the show gets to bring in their own piece of clothing that represents their culture. All of the material in the show came from friends or family.
Fadumo Ali wanted to be in charge of cultural night because it would be cool to be a part of something and put on their very first cultural night.
“I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but now as we [were] two days away, it’s nice seeing our hard work paying off,” Ali said.
