Selena Gomez’s new album brings a different sound

“Rare” is Selena Gomez’s first album since 2015’s “Revival”. Arguably one of the most popular off of her new album, the song “Lose You To Love Me” is about someone needing to distance themselves in order to find value from within. It has a good message, and it sets up the theme for the rest of the album: love and its problems. Other songs, such as the first track “Rare”, have Selena singing at relatively the same pitch until she sings the word rare. This style diverges from her previously more pop-like tracks on other albums such as “Who Says”. That being said, the songs don’t seem to fit together for example, “Look At Her Now” is very upbeat and more electronic-sounding than “Kinda Crazy” which is more subdued. I like some of her other albums better, but she is doing a good job transitioning her sound to be more like that of other celebrities such as Billie Eilish.
